Wish By Jorge Rodríguez–Gerada
A new face for Belfast on the old face of the city. Is this just wishful thinking or a genuine hope for a brighter future for all of us who share this land?
A first for the UK and Ireland, a large scale portrait with a gaze towards the future has been created by internationally acclaimed artist Jorge Rodríguez–Gerada. Making history with local volunteers and community groups, the biggest spectacle of land art to be seen in Belfast to date has evolved at the Titanic Quarter, questioning who we want to be, rather than who we currently are.
Wish is situated on 11 acres of land and can be viewed once Festival opens by members of the public from high up one of the adjacent buildings on specially escorted tours as well by walking through the art itself.
Visitors flying in and out of George Best Belfast City Airport will get a bird’s eye view of this transformative contemporary art installation.
This is the largest work that the artist Jorge Rodríguez Gerada has ever completed at 11 acres. Because of the scale of the final piece the optimum view is aerial and via the aerial photography and video that can be viewed on line at www.belfastfestival.com.
The viewing platforms only provide oblique perspectives of the piece and people can also walk around the work at ground level for an altogether different perspective. The differing perspectives of the piece are an important element of the piece.
