St Thomas' Parish, in South Belfast, Northern Ireland, is part of the Church of Ireland, which is a member Church of the world-wide Anglican Communion.
St Thomas' Church is located beside the Rectory at the end of Eglantine Avenue near the Lisburn Road, one of Belfast's main arterial routes. The Parish extends from Elmwood Avenue to Adelaide Park, and from the Malone Road to the Lisburn Road.
MEMBERS AND VISITORS: Church members live both inside and outside the parish area: many in Stranmillis, Finaghy, Upper Malone, Dunmurry, Knockbreda, Lambeg and Bangor. Membership of our congregation includes people from many different countries, including Poland, Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Eritrea, South Africa, Lebanon, France, Egypt and the USA. Being located in the hotel and guest house area of the city and being near Queen's University, the City Hospital and major schools, we have many international visitors at Church Services.
We welcome, and include everyone, in our worship, prayer and activities.
Church and Rectory: The Church and Rectory were built side by side on what was known as 'the Malone Ridge' in 1870. Both buildings are fine examples of Victorian design and workmanship. The Church is one of the finest examples of High Victorian Gothic architecture in Ulster and underwent extensive restoration and re-ordering in 2007-2008. A programme of special events in 2008 and 2009 marked the reopening. Many visitors comment that the beauty of the Church enhances the worship of God. We want to share this beautiful heritage with others.
